What Makes Boys Afraid to Tell About Sexual Abuse?
1.๏ Boys are under the assumption that they should be able to protect themselves. If someone takes advantage of them they feel it is their own fault, they should have been stronger.
2.๏ Boys feel they won’t be believed. Especially if the abuse was perpetrated by a woman.
3.๏ Boys worry that if the perpetrator was male then he must be gay, or if he tells, people will think he was gay.
4.๏ Our current social belief is that victims are female and perpetrators are male, therefore males are not seen as abuse victims.
What Happens to these Boys?
1.๏ There is an increase in addiction problems, emotional problems, and relational problems.
2.๏ Reenactment of childhood victimization is the major cause of violence in our society.
What Can We Do?
1.๏ Talk to your children, students, family members. Teach boys about healthy sexual boundaries and their right to set boundaries about their own bodies. Encourage dialogue with safe adults Reenactment of childhood victimization is the major cause of violence in our society.
2.๏ Prevent Child Abuse; Riverside County is campaigning to educate the public to help the future men of our Communities.
